Tunes in our Minds

Harmony in The Human Mind

http://www.dartmouth.edu/~news/releases/dec02/melodies.shtml

When one speaks of harmony, we think of music. Researchers at the Hanover University have discovered a region of the brain where "sound memory is retained."  It is really interesting that the same region is responsible for mediating emotions. This goes a LONG WAY in explaining why certain tunes stick in our mind and why other tunes precipitate memorable events.

According to Peter Jana, Assistant Professor at Darmouth's center for cognitive Neuroscience,  although the region  of the brain is "framed,"  the mapping is not a static one -- "...the map is maintained as a changing topography."
