Window To Your Environment
A Window To Your Environment http://www.epa.gov/enviro/wme/ Did you ever get an environmental report of danger sites in your IMMEDIATE vicinity? If not, I suggest that you pay a quick visit to the US Government Environmental Protection Web site. This site can provided you with what they call a "Window To My Environment." All you have to do is enter a city/town or a ZIP code and you are on your way into what may surprised you. Most of all, do not assume that there is no danger around you. I was amaze how little I knew about my near neighborhood. You always think that the nasty stuff is the "other man's" neighborhood, right? Not only can hot sites devalue your property but they can -- and will erode -- your well-being. And, beside that, what is a "cool" product today can "become" environmentally "hot" as the medico-political tide turns. Some of us are old enough to have seen, for example, asbestos being a man's best-friend to one that cost of fortune to dispose, all because of the newly-found hazards. The same is true for mercury and, of all things, radium. It was not that long ago that radium was used in airplane cockpits and even in the hands and numerals of clocks and wristwatch. By the way it did not take much to produce the stuff -- was it in your vicinity? Many material are now suspected of causing harm. All you need is break-through finding from a medical study and the frenzy of the press to put any product on the "no-no" list. I believe that the EPA is tracking this type of information. Anyhow, like I said, pay this site a visit -- It may surprise you. Ron Herff |
